What Is a Companion Animal Doula?
Our animals are family. They share our homes, our routines, and our hearts, and saying goodbye to them can be one of the hardest things we ever do. A companion animal doula is a compassionate, non-medical guide who supports you and your pet through the end of their life, so you can focus on love instead of logistics.
I work alongside your veterinarian, never in place of them. While your vet guides medical care, I support you, your family, and your pet through the experience as a whole.
My support can include:
Talking through what's ahead: helping you understand your options, reflect on quality of life, and make decisions that feel right for you and your pet
Planning a peaceful goodbye: thinking through where and how you'd like to say goodbye, who will be present, and how to make that time calm and meaningful
Being present: offering a steady presence before, during, and after your pet's passing
Aftercare decisions: helping you think through burial, cremation, and keepsakes without feeling rushed
Honoring their life: creating rituals, memorials, and legacy projects that celebrate the bond you shared
Supporting the whole family: including children and the other animals in your home, who grieve too
Grief support: acknowledging that pet loss is real loss, and walking with you through what comes after
There is no "just" a pet. Your grief deserves to be seen and held with the same care as any other loss, and I'm here to help you give your companion the gentle, loving goodbye they deserve.
